Cardinal Custom Finishes was built on a simple belief: every home deserves to feel personal. And in today's market, investing in your home is about more than beauty. It's also one of the smartest ways to protect and grow its value. What started as a simple love for craftsmanship has grown into a business rooted in pride, precision, and care.
Owner and craftsman Matt Wrenn began his career installing windows before discovering a passion for detailed trim work. After moving to San Antonio, he spent years honing his craft on high end, custom projects such as home libraries, movie theaters, built-ins, and accent walls. He realized his true calling was in the small details that bring a space to life.
When Matt returned home to North Carolina, he started Cardinal Custom Finishes to do things differently, to prioritize quality over speed, collaboration over guesswork, and to create a better experience for homeowners.
These days Matt's work is mostly the details that make a house feel like yours: accent walls, wainscoting, picture frame molding, baseboards, and crown. He'll tell you honestly what will make a difference in your home and what won't.

Matt’s approach is easygoing and meticulous. He invites clients into the process, helping them make design decisions, offering honest guidance, and ensuring every project feels like a partnership.
He’s known for being detail oriented without being rigid and creating a laid back work environment that clients actually enjoy having in their home.
When he’s not creating custom accent walls, you’ll find him outdoors playing disc golf, trackside at a NASCAR race with his girlfriend, attending concerts of all kinds, or spending time with their two dogs. He’s the kind of guy who gets along with everyone, loyal, kind, and always up for good conversation!
